Denver hiring mascot, handler | FOX31

DENVER (KDVR) — The Kroenke Sports & Entertainment is looking to fill a position that requires a sense of humor and peak physical condition, while also sometimes wearing a costume.

The company, which owns the Denver Nuggets, the Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Mammoth and Colorado Rapids is looking for a mascot handler who doubles as an on-call performer.

The position is mainly focused on the mascot handler, who is the main point of contact for the mascot and helps with gameday preparation while sometimes filling in for the full-time mascot.

But the position isn’t for the faint of heart.

Mascots, like the Nuggets’ Rocky the mountain lion, have been spotted in some crazy performances.

One home entrance even knocked the wind out of Rocky and took him out for the rest of the game.

While the position states that the employee would be performing as the backup mascot at outside events, the job listing also states that the backup mascot could potentially perform at some home games.

The job description doesn’t specifically mention stunts like belaying from the ceiling, however, it does mention that the team is looking for the individual to be in top physical condition, have at least one year of mascot experience and have dance-related skills, like tumbling, cheer stunting and stilt-walking.

As the handler, the team is offering $25 per hour and pre-determined mascot rates when in costume, and $50 per hour when a pre-determined rate does not apply.

While the other pre-determined rates aren’t mentioned, one study listed Rocky as the highest earner in the NBA, making around $625,000 annually.

If you’re looking to get out of the 9-5 office job and help out the mascot, while sometimes suiting up and taking on the crowd, the application can be found on ADP Workforce Now.
